TOYS FOR TOTS

The Toys for Tots program at VFW Post #2718 Frank P. Curry Jr. serves as a cornerstone of the post's annual holiday community outreach, uniting local combat veterans, families, and residents in a shared mission of giving.  Organized in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, the drive serves as an official donation collection point for Franklin Square and the broader Nassau County region.  Beginning each autumn, Post #2718 sets up collection drop boxes at its post home on Lincoln Road, encouraging members, local businesses, schools, and neighbors to contribute new, unwrapped toys.  For the veterans of Post #2718, facilitating Toys for Tots is a direct extension of their oath to serve, turning the post hall into a hub of holiday cheer dedicated to supporting economically disadvantaged children throughout the local community.

Beyond simply collecting donations, VFW Post #2718 leverages its deep community ties and organizational network to maximize the impact of the Toys for Tots campaign.  Post members and the VFW Auxiliary actively coordinate collection efforts, host special holiday drop-off events, and partner with local civic groups to boost participation.  Once collected, the toys are turned over to local Marine Corps Reserve coordinators, such as the nearby Nassau County campaign unit based in Garden City, to be sorted and distributed to families and local charitable agencies before the holidays. Through this long-standing tradition, Post #2718 helps deliver hope, joy, and a tangible message of community care to local youth, reinforcing the VFW's motto that "no one does more for veterans" or the communities they call home.
