HONOR GUARD

The Honor Guard of VFW Post #2718 Frank P. Curry Jr. serves as the highly visible, ceremonial unit of the post, dedicated to rendering final military honors to fallen comrades and upholding solemn military traditions within the Franklin Square community.  Composed of dedicated post volunteers, often combat veterans spanning multiple eras of service, the Honor Guard's primary and most sacred duty is performing military funeral honors for deceased veterans. Whether assisting active-duty military details or conducting full ceremonies independently, the detail carries out precise, time-honored protocols. Their duties include serving as pallbearers, performing the ceremonial folding and presentation of the American flag to next of kin, firing traditional three-rifle volleys, and sounding "Taps," ensuring every departed service member receives a dignified and respectful final salute.

Beyond funeral services, the Post #2718 Honor Guard acts as a primary ambassador of military heritage and civic pride throughout Nassau County and the broader Long Island region.  Functioning frequently as a Color Guard, the unit posts and presents the National Colors and service flags at civic ceremonies, school assemblies, athletic events, and local patriotic parades, including the annual Franklin Square Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances.  The guardsmen maintain rigorous standards of dress uniform presentation, drill precision, and military bearing, demonstrating the continuing commitment of VFW Post #2718 to honor the fallen, educate the public on military traditions, and preserve the ideals of Americanism within the local community.
